About Joes MK2 Escort
Joe has owned his present car for 3 years, the car has undergone a lot of changes over that period and has been developed around Joe. 'Proflex suspension has been fitted which has improved the handling of the car, but the weak point of the whole package has been the engine. Initially Joe used an 245bhp 2 ltr 16V Vauxhall with steel rods. The performance was excellent, but it had terrible reliability problems which got progressively worse as Joe got faster and asked more of the engine, engine after engine exploded under Joe's right foot.
Ultimately after a significant amount of research, it was decided that a 1990's Vauxhall world touring car bottom end configuration should be used as a basis for the engine. The main difference with this is that it has a shorter stroke which reduces the stress levels on the bottom end as a whole, this makes the engine very reliable. The engine is a dream to drive with smooth tractable power through a wide rev range, allowing Joe to exploit the full potential of the car.
